In conjunction with World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, and Musculoskeletal Diseases (WCO-IOF-ESCEO Florence 2017) separated meetings for members of three committees of Committee of National Societies (CNS), Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA), and Committee of Corporate Advisors (CCA) of International Osteoporosis Foundation were held on March 23-26, 2017 in Florence, Italy.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, Director and Chief Scientific Officer at the EMRI, as a global expert in the field of osteoporosis and Member of Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA) of IOF participated in the CSA business meeting and provided recommendations for practice in the care of osteoporosis and Sarcopenia on a national and regional scale.
Dr. Eghbal Taheri, a faculty member of EMRI and member of the Committee of National Societies (CNS) of IOF provided the CNS member with a report of activates carried out by EMRI for raising awareness on effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day 2016.
Also, As part of the IOF’s Regional Programme, the members of the Regional Advisory Council (RAC)in the designated region of Middle East & North Africa (MENA) participated in a meeting to develop programmes and policies targeted to the specific needs of MENA region. During this session, representative of EMRI proposed an Osteoporosis Strategic Plan for the Middle East and Africa Region which was correlated well with the objectives and recommendations of the ME&Africa Audit launched 2011.
This Strategic Plan will address the clinical management of fractures, the prevention of ongoing osteoporotic fractures as well as raising public awareness to prevent fractures in the first place for six main populations.
