Workshop on International Student Admissions in Research Centers
A workshop was held on April 13, 2023, to provide international students with information about the admission requirements and conditions for research centers.
The event featured Dr. Afshin Ostovar, the head of the research institute, Dr. Seyed Mojtaba Daqiqi, the deputy research director of the international campus, Dr. Arman Zargaran, the deputy director for international affairs, and faculty members of the research institute.
The workshop focused on discussing research grants offered by the International Campus Research Deputy and the regulations for enrolling in the New Route PhD program.
Research Grants for Publications in Nature and Science Journals
The deputy research director announced: "To support faculty members in publishing their research in top international journals, we have established research grants. These grants can be used to help cover the costs of publishing articles in prestigious journals like Nature and Science."
He explained: "For the first and corresponding author of an article published in Nature or Science, a research grant of 300 million tomans is available. Other authors can receive a grant of 150 million tomans. Faculty members who publish in these journals can apply for the grant by submitting their published article to the international deputy."
Dr. Daqiqi emphasized: "While Nature and Science journals are primarily focused on medical research, we are also developing grants for other fields. We are carefully selecting journals based on their rankings and indexing to ensure that our grants support research in various disciplines."
Indicators for Faculty Collaboration in New Route PhD Programs for International Students
The deputy research director also discussed the regulations for admitting international students into the New Route PhD programs. He highlighted the program's goals, including improving the academic level of international applicants, enhancing the achievements of faculty members, and promoting the university's graduate education activities internationally.
He outlined the criteria for faculty members who wish to supervise international PhD students:
Academic rank: Associate professor or research professor with an H-index of 10 or more, or assistant professor with at least 3 years of experience and an H-index of 15 or more.
Research expertise: The faculty member must have the necessary research skills and experience in the relevant field.
Publication record: The faculty member should have published at least four articles as the first or corresponding author in reputable international journals within the past two years.
Supervision experience: The faculty member should have supervised at least three doctoral students whose theses have been successfully defended.
Dr. Daqiqi noted that the institute is working to revise the criteria to encourage more faculty members to participate in the New Route PhD programs.
